Well... Santa had to learn some new skills this year. He and his elves magically sent each class a...
A week of fun in Year 1
Our learning this week has had an exciting theme — our visit to Chester Zoo.
In our Literacy time we have been using time connectives and adjectives to write all about our visit to the Zoo on Tuesday. Learning about time connectives has helped us to write in order and our adjectives have made our writing more interesting. Today we have been writing our sentences with beautiful handwriting and I am looking forward to seeing them feature on a page in our new study work books.
Whereas in Numeracy our focus has been counting on to answer word problems. We chose an animal to rest on the largest number and then practised counting on in our heads. Once we had got busy with this, we then designed our own number problems using animals from the zoo. Today we have been finding our answers by using a number line.
In our afternoons we have been exploring what study work is by getting our Chester Zoo page ready. We have also spent time finding out about Anthony Browne, our class author. We found out all sort of facts today, and one of the most interesting was that he has written over 40 books, and we found out that he is the illustrator too. This afternoon we enjoyed relaxing in the library with our class collection of Anthony Browne books.
A lovely week once again Year 1.
See you on Monday,
Mrs Pointon
