A warm welcome to Y6

A warm welcome to Y6, I bet you cannot believe this is your final year, and what a great year it will be. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous holiday. Many thanks for all your kind wishes and wonderful gifts. I have been thoroughly spoilt.

We have begun our Big Art project focusing on a glass sculptor called Dale Chihuly. We are creating a "Global Warming" chandelier to hang in our classroom using recycled water bottles. If anyone has any poster tubes and happy to donate them to school, I would really appreciate using them.

In Maths this week, we have investigated place value and using our addition and subtraction skills we have solved problems. Our MyMaths homework reflects the work we have been doing.

This week In Book Club and English, I have introduced our new class story, Exodus. We have focused on descriptive language spending time analysing the prologue for key vocabulary. Our story also introduced us to the idea of storms. We have used different images to create descriptive word banks and will now go on to write our first draft next week.

We finished our week discussing our Friday timetable and going through our homework books. Children have now received a new reading diary, blue homework book and new Spag book. Homework has been set in their blue books. MyMaths and Spag.com log in details are in all homework books. As we are at PGL for part of next week, I have allocated two weeks to complete it all.

Mrs Chesters has introduced us to a new times tables challenge website called TT Rock Star. I would like all of my children to log on and play the online games as often as possible. Children can play on their own, against classmates or against other people around the world. The MyMaths log in details will give you access to this site too.

We have run our first Y6 Friday worship today. Well done to all involved, remember, "you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." A.A. Milne.

Finally, I have received thanks from Mrs Taylor in Reception for looking after her children so well. Lunchtimes have run very smoothly and this is all down to you. Thank you.

Only five more sleeps and we will be on our way to PGL. Bring it on!
I hope you have a great weekend.

Mrs B
