What a busy week in year 1!

We began this week by practising for sports Day and look forward to trying our hardest on the day!

Our Seaside Theme Day is on Monday 8th July and we are all looking forward to dressing for the beach!

Most of this week, we have been completing our study work books and completing our learning for Science and Geography.

In English, we have started reading the beginning of a new book called, The Lost Egg! The children have enjoyed predicting what might happen next during a class discussion. On Wednesday, we discussed a new title for our own version of The Lost Egg. We also discussed the setting, a beach and the characters. We have thought of a new title for our own story and retold the beginning and next week we will start writing it using our best writing. Our target next week will be to use a clear and confident speaking voice, using interesting adjectives to add detail and reread our writing to check if it makes sense.

In Maths, we have focused on our number bonds to 20, counting in 2s and 5s, adding two digit numbers to 1 digit numbers, whole
class counting forwards and backwards 1-100 and generally being fantastic Mathematicians!

In Computing this week we have used Topmarks, a Maths game, on our classroom computers taking turns to answer Maths questions. Next week we will be using paint to draw a picture of our 'Lost Egg' from our own story! I look forward to guessing what might be in the egg...

In Design and Technology, we have been working on finishing Mr and Mrs Grinling's cottage... next week will be the reveal week! We discussed how a project can sometimes take longer than scheduled and that's okay! We have made windows and next week we will even sew curtains!

Year 1 were fantastic for Miss McCurrie and they absolutely loved their afternoon getting to be year 2's! Throughout the week we've also continued with our daily mile and completed Mindful Monday colouring.

It has been a busy week as always with lots of laughter and fun! :)

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss H
