Tusk Tusk Stories Year 1

Home » News » Tusk Tusk Stories Year 1

This week we have been reading scales in maths and writing stories in English.

We have been problem solving using maths words when weighing this week, such as heavy, heaviest, light, lightest, grams, kilograms, scales, equals and balance scales.

In English our writing has been based around another book by David McKee called Tusk Tusk. It is a great book which has given us lots to think about getting along with each other, friendship and differences. The children have written stories inspired by Tusk Tusk, using different animals and choosing their own endings. We have also been using linking words (connectives) to link our sentences and help our stories to be more interesting. Children, can you remember any of the connectives we used in our writing?

Our Tusk Tusk writing linked in nicely with Interfaith week, run by Mrs Taylor, where the children were thinking about what makes a good friend. Mrs Taylor shared the story of the Good Samaritan and we thought about how we can be a good friend to people we may not know well or that live in different countries. Our Worship also helped us to think about people from different religions too. Well done to Belle and Joseph who were chosen to share our learning with the rest of the school in worship time. You spoke clearly and were very confident speakers.

It has been exciting to hear how the children have got on with their bird watching tales! We have even had to stop the learning a few times this week as the children have noticed a bird visiting our garden to feed on the bird feeders!
