This week in year 3

Home » News » This week in year 3

This week in year 3, we have used simile and metaphor to write descriptions and learnt the power of subtle meanings in words. We marched, filed, stomped, crawled, tiptoed and swaggered around the hall to show how word choice can change what a reader sees in their mind's eye and alter the behaviour of a character dramatically.

In maths, we were introduced to maths frog (who we named Bob) and he helped us to subtract by counting on. He leaps along number lines in a really sensible way and this makes our maths easier to understand.

Our afternoons have been spent sketching and painting in the style of Piet Mondrian. We used the book 'Tree' by Danny Parker as a starting point. We learnt to use a sketching pencil properly to create light and shade and the photos show both our sketched trees and our interpretations of The Grey Tree by Mondrian. Some of our work is displayed in class.

P.C. Nick paid us a visit earlier in the week and the children listened very carefully to a presentation all about 'Stranger Danger'.

In R.E. today, we will hear the story of Mary Jones and consider how hard we might be prepared to work for something which we really want.

Next week, our spelling and tables test will take place on Thursday as on Friday we will be out of school for our Robin Hood adventure! A reminder then that the children will need to wrap up warm on Friday and be prepared for any weather. What an exciting day to look forward to.

We also hope many of you will be able to join us for our Harvest worship on Tuesday morning.

New mymaths homework will be set by Monday and the children will have one week to complete their tasks.

Have a restful weekend everyone...and don't forget, we are remembering to bring our ENERGY to school every day from now on!
