This week in Year 2...

This week in our phonics lessons, the focus has been on learning different oa sounds. We have really enjoyed reading, and then writing our own silly sentences. We then made some 'phonics flowers' to add to our display. We are excited to use these in our learning time to help us when we are writing and reading. Keep up the hard work Year 2, Mrs Parker and I are pleased with how focused you are in our lessons!

In maths, we have continued with our place value unit and we have used numicon, dienes and counters to help us. We finished the week with a Mrs Chesters' quiz (our end of unit assessment) and I was proud of how hard the children have worked. Next week, we will be moving on to addition and subtraction.

In English, we have read the old favourite The Three Little Pigs, focusing on the story language used in the tale. We then retold the story in our own words, with some children managing to write two pages...wow!! We then looked back over our writing and our focus was punctuation, mainly capital letters and full stops. We thought about why we use full stops and where we need them. We even used our 'full stop friends' to help us see really clearly when we use full stops in our writing.

This week saw our first handwriting king and queen. Our king and queen were presented with their crown and wore them all day with pride! I'm sure you will be as impressed with their writing as I am! Let's see who will be next weeks handwriting royalty...!

On Thursday we were very proud to show you our Harvest service and tell the story of 'Rainbow People'. We sung our songs with enthusiasm and pride and had learnt our words and tried our best to speak loudly and clearly. We hope you enjoyed it! Next stop...nativity...!

We were also very lucky on Wednesday to have a visit from Miss Lake from the 'Blue Cross' who taught us all about 'How to Look After Your Pet' and how to stay safe around dogs. It was a really interactive and engaging session and the children learnt lots whilst having lots of fun. Thank you to the Blue Cross and to Miss Lake!

In the afternoons, we have been looking at the journey of food in our Farm to Fork work. We linked this to our Design and Technology work and we have designed what snacks we would like to make, using only food that has come from farms. What did you decide on? What ingredients do you need for your snack? We are looking forward to making our choices next week in school.

Have a lovely weekend.
