A huge thank you all once again for your support in these challenging times! Seesaw has been...
This week in Year 2
In English this week we have begun our descriptive writing journey. We have invented and drawn our own worlds and have looked using expanded noun phrases to describe the different areas. This will continue next week when we will be editing and improving our work. We have also continued to focus on full stops and capital letters as quite a few of us keep forgetting! We have a little game where we bounce a ball while chanting full stop, capital letter. Hopefully, that will help us remember!
In Book Club we have continued working on our comprehension skills and have been spotting suffixes in a text.
In Maths we have finished our unit on measurement by looking at money and time. We have also continued to work on our reasoning skills. This is a difficult concept but the children are beginning to get used to using the words because...why? and prove it! in their work. NRICH is a good website to help reinforce mathematical reasoning. Next week we will begin working on multiplication. After half term we will begin small, weekly times table tests, beginning with 10. We have been working towards this in our mental maths starters by counting forward and back, from any number, in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. A copy of the style of test will be sent home this week, for parents to see.
There are two My Maths tasks set for homework. These are to run over half term and are for completion by Tuesday 23rd Feb. If children want to practise there are plenty of games, on My Maths, that help with revision. 'Colour by numbers' and 'Skysolver' in the mental games section are good.
In study work we have been cutting around templates and using running stitches in D & T, in order to make our owl puppets. It has been Interfaith week, run by Mrs Taylor, and our RE has enabled us to think about what makes a good friend. We read the story of the Good Samaritan and thought about how we can be a good friend to people we may not know well or that live in different countries. Our Worship also helped us to think about people from different religions too.
After half term, in order to move lessons across years 1, 2 & 3 in line, our spelling and homework day will revert back to Mondays.
Have a lovely weekend. I will see you all on Monday!
