This week in Year 1

Home » News » This week in Year 1

We have been spending our afternoons this week learning about Andy Warhol and his paintings and style of art. We thought about what artists we already knew and what 'famous' meant. The children have been sharing lots of facts about Andy Warhol and his work with each other and have started their art work inspired by Andy Warhol's 'Flowers' painting. We have been using layers and will be finishing the paintings tomorrow by printing the flowers on to our backgrounds.

In numeracy this week we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We found out about two characters called 'Odd Todd and Even Steven' and the children used the Numicon in practical activities to find out if a number is odd or even.

In literacy, we have finished our own Paper Dolls adventures and will be making books next week so we can become fully fledged authors! We have also started using non fiction books and have been learning about the features of information books. The children have been using contents pages and index to find out information about transport.

We also had a visit today from Hilary who works at Nantwich library. She talked to us about how a library works and what books can be found in the library. She was impressed with how many of us were already members of the library! She even read us a story called "Hugless Douglas wants a hug" with a puppet which the children really enjoyed.

Our busy day today also included a visit from PC Nick who talked to the children about Stranger Danger and being safe in the community. He was very impressed with how knowledgeable the children were.

Please check your emails for this week's homework.
