Tangotastic Year Five!

Home » News » Tangotastic Year Five!

Watch us Tango! : Gorilla Dawn and we tried to imagine what her life is like. We listened to her story so far and discussed her relationships with other characters and the experiences she has already had so far in our story. All of this allowed the children to write to beautiful and emotional pieces of writing. We also had a visit from Matt Buckingham who is an author/illustrator who gave us some top tips about creative writing and drawing!

In Maths we continued to investigate angles. This week we look at the properties of angles within shapes. We can now also calculate missing angles we our new found knowledge. Children are becoming more confident everyday in using protractors, estimating angles and being able to label them correctly. We've also had class discussions around reasoning questions which has provoked some interesting and thoughtful ideas, well done. We also used Kadinsky's artwork to meausre lots of angles, lines and then had a go at producing our own Kadinsky-style artwork for our study wok, check it out!

In Book Club this week our text focus was on a diary write. We had our shared read, discussing some of the trickier language and the overall feel of the story. The children then completed questions, had a go at some SPaG work and even got to research Mr Dale's world questions. What is the most poisonous spider in the world again.

In Computing we had a huge treat on Monday. Mr G came in to teach us all about the app CoSpaces (I'm sure the children have told you all about it!). We then used our new knowledge to help out Year 6 with their SPaG. Creating whole worlds dedicated to SPaG lands and mazes, they're fantastic! We've now ordered some more VR headsets so that the children can play in the worlds, virtual reality style!

In Art we continued to learn more about the life of artist, Georgia O'Keeffe. We practised her techniques and produced some stunning and bold flower art. Well done everyone!

This week we also had a treat on Friday. We were able to go into the hall and learn how to dance! our dance was the tango to celebrate World Dance Day! Thanks to Mrs Taylor for organising this! We've definitely got some brilliant dancer amongst our Year 5's. Mr Dale, not so much!

Have a brilliant weekend,

Mr Dale
