Summer Term begins in Y5

Home » News » Summer Term begins in Y5

Welcome back to you all, I hope you have had a lovely Easter break and are ready for a busy Summer Term.

We have begun our journey into the Stone Age this week with Big Art, investigating the earliest artists in History. Both the Lascaux Cave and Peche Merle Cave have given us inspiration to create our own cave art. We have designed tiles and then used a printing process to achieve our results. Our artwork will now create an effective display for all to see.

This week our Geography mapping skills have enabled us to find the earliest Stone Age settlements, both across the World and within the British Isles. Today we have focused on the Orkney Islands and the history of the Skara Brae settlement, fact finding, discovering and broadening our knowledge all ending in a Skara Brae class quiz.

In maths this week we have calculated the perimeter and area of regular and composite shapes. We have learnt new formulae to help our calculations and our Mymaths homework will support this learning.

In English we have listened to the powerful and emotional poem, the Funeral Blues. This has helped us to write our own poetry and to reflect on the feelings of our book character Torak as he comes to terms with the loss of his Fa. Our class read, Wolf Brother, has already hooked us in and our poems have definitely helped us to empathise with the main character.

Thank you for taking part in our class fundraising today and I hope a good evening is had by all on Saturday. Have a great weekend.
