Summer Reading Challenge
This year's Summer Reading Challenge is upon us! Today, Hilary from Nantwich library came to tell us all about it. This year's theme is called Mischief Makers, inspired by the much-loved children's title Beano, which celebrates its 80th anniversary. Children who take part will explore a map of Beanotown to find the mysterious buried treasure and become ultimate mischief makers! Dennis, Gnasher and friends will help them solve clues and collect stickers, having lots of fun and adventures along the way.
The Summer Reading Challenge is inclusive of all children and families and all stages of reading development. The challenge is for children to read six or more books of their choice: fiction, non-fiction, joke books, picture books; any books they like, as long as they are borrowed from the library. There is also a mini-challenge for pre-school children so that the whole family can take part.
Here at Wybunbury Delves, we love to celebrate the achievements of pupils who participate in the challenge when they return to school. We give out 25 house points for every child to completes their challenge and their photo with their certificate and medal will be up on our reading 'hall of fame' display! In fact for the last two years, we have been the school with the most children who have signed up and completed the challenge in the whole of Nantwich! Let's see if we can make it three years in a row!
The reading challenge helps to support pupils' learning during the holidays, helps to prevent the trend for children's reading skills to dip over the holidays and ensures children return in the autumn term ready for a great start to the new academic year.
Crewe and Nantwich libraries have already started the Summer Reading Challenge. Just pop down to your local library and start the challenge! Your new teachers can't wait to see all your certificates and medals in September.
