Singing for Fun!

Our school choir this year will be run by Mr Henderson, a vocal specialist, supported by Mrs Brittain. For thousands of years, in all cultures, in all parts of the world, people have been singing. Singing is in our genes and in human nature. The urge to sing — and to hear others sing — is in all of us. Singing — like laughter, play, sunshine, countryside and exercise — helps underpin and maintain our well-being and happiness. But singing in a choir is more than just a bit of fun. It's been scientifically proven that it is good for your health: from getting more oxygen into the blood, to increasing the flow of feel-good hormones and improving mental health.
We would like to invite all our Key Stage 2 children to join our choir. Choir will begin on Monday 19th September 3.15pm-4.15pm. We want to be able to perform, on our playground, lunchtimes, concerts and out in our community. In order to do this we need as many singers as possible to come on a Monday evening and enjoy having a sing together.

Music Spotlight

This year I am championing music, as a music specialist myself, and I would like ALL children in this school to gain from an extra-curricular musical teaching.

Some children already participate in musical activities through lessons with Music For Life. We are very luckily to have a range of quality specialist teachers who come into school to teach children from Year 1 to Year 6 to play a musical instrument through parents purchasing lessons with Music For Life. If you would like your child to learn an instrument, an instrument, the office has copies of Music for Life's leaflets.

Our school invests in Wider Opportunities for our Year 4 children. This means they receive a term tuition on a brass instrument and have the opportunity to play as part of a class brass band.

This year, we have invested in Mrs Brown, a music specialist, to teach some of our classes on a Monday afternoon. She will be delivering class music lessons which inspire working together to develop an appreciation of music, to develop skills to continue making and appreciating music. This half term Reception and Year 2 are working with Mrs Brown, next half term Year 3 and Year 5 will be working with her.

Mrs Brown will be running a percussion band for Year 2 and Year 3. They will be whacking out and rocking up their own versions of our favourite tunes on Monday afternoons from 3.15pm to 4.15pm beginning on Monday 19th September. The band will be performing at a special mini-gig for parents later this term. A separate letter has been sent out.

As the year progresses we will look at providing opportunities for our younger children.

If you have musical skills and could offer some of your time to run a musical club for our children, please get in touch.
