Romans! Romans! Y2
What a lovely first week back we have had! How is it already the Summer term? This week, we have started our learning all about the Romans! So far we have found out all about Roman soldiers, how they trained, what they did in their spare time and what different parts of the uniform were used for. We have also found some interesting facts about...Roman toilets! We have enjoyed reading our Roman non fiction books at the end of each day too. Remember you are welcome to take one home if you would like! Each day Mrs Parker and I have been looking out for children who have been working hard to become our Roman soldier of the day...look out for the pictures!
In the afternoons, we have been working on a class project of making a Roman chariot. We also learnt lots about Roman chariot racing. We found out that this was the only sport that women were allowed to watch in Roman times. We thought this was very unfair! We then took photos of ourselves and turned ourselves into mini Roman soldiers with our own shields, based on all that we had learnt about their armour and weapons.
We ended our week by reading letters that had arrived in the post from our partner school in Kaiyaba, Kenya which were so exciting to read. Who sent you a letter? What do you know about them? We were so excited to find out what games they enjoy playing, which were the same as us! Lots of children loved playing Cha Mama which we found out is the same as playing mums and dads!
We have also been lucky enough to take home our home grown plants and flowers which we planted last term. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend, let's hope it stays!
