Reception weekly news

We made it ! Our first full week and a busy one at that.

On Monday we made a very good start to our 'changing for PE' with Mrs Swan. With the help of some relaxing music playing, we took our time and tried very hard to put our clothes into neat piles ready to get back into our uniform after the lesson. Our lesson was getting used to the big space in the hall, traveling and stopping and listening to instructions such as 'freeze in the shape of a tree'.

In music we talked about warming up our voices and did some singing games. We look forward to meeting Barney Bear next week for another musical adventure.

Our letter formation is beginning to look very smart as we have practiced forming our letters from our phonics sessions and then joining some of our sounds together to make words and labels for pictures. We have been working really hard on our reading too this week, sounding out words and then blending the sounds to hear and say them. We have discovered that some words don't sound out and are currently learning a tricky word song to help us remember them.

We began our number work this week by matching the correct number of objects to a given number up to 10 and then we have finished off the week by making images of different houses using 2D shapes.

In RE this week we explored the concept of 'good news' and decided that good news makes people feel happy or thankful for something or event. We all shared our good news which we are making into a class newspaper of good news. We looked at our class children's bible and considered why Christian people might think the bible is full of good news. "Is it because God loves us?" asked Seb. I think you're right there.

This week we have also joined the rest of the school for morning worship and impressed Mrs Chesters with our beautiful manners. We have certainly found a new favourite song to sing with requests for 'My lighthouse' at various points of the day. We are getting great at the actions now too!

This week also saw the start of our first nature club where we talked about the season of Autumn coming and how we can help to feed the wildlife and birds in our garden. We made fantastic bird feeders from apples and sunflower seeds grown in our garden and then made some from fat and birdseed. Let's hope the birds enjoy them!

Have a wonderful weekend
Mrs Taylor
