Shapes, shapes 3D shapes!!

After singing this song all week in our number work we can't get it out of our heads!
Whilst exploring the properties of 3D shapes: cube, cuboid, cylinder, pyramid, sphere and cone we talked about what flat 2D shapes we recognised in them and how many sides they have. We looked at what 3D shapes we recognised in our environment too and created structures using our favourite ones. You are becoming great shape detectives reception.

In our literacy work we have focused on completing rhyming strings and then writing captions for rhyming pictures like cat on a mat and pin on a tin.

A huge thank you for all the great houses that came into school this week as part of our home school link, not only was it great to see so many household items recycled it also gave us the opportunity to speak to an audience effectively explaining the processes taken to make them. Our classroom looks like a mini village, it looks amazing.

We have continued our theme of 'Good News' in RE and finished making our good news class newspaper. After listening to a good news story from the bible, we considered who was our neighbour. Jocelyn, you gave such a thoughtful answer when you said it was a person who lived next door as well as someone who was a friend who helped you when you needed them.

In understanding the world around us, we looked at homes now and then with 'Magic Granddad' an interactive resource which explored the different types of items found in home a long time ago and how they were used compared to now. We have decided it was hard work a long time ago to keep a house clean and to cook meals! We are thankful we have lots of great gadgets.

We are hoping to attract lots of insects and minibeasts into our garden and have made them lots of cosy compartments with twigs, leaves and pine cones in our bug hotel at nature club this week. Thank goodness we fixed the roof to make it more weatherproof too as the heavy rain swiftly followed. At least it has made us some great puddles for jumping in!
