Reception Weekly News

Home » News » Untitled article

Our last week of term has been a very busy week reception, here are some of our best bits!

In caring for our class tadpoles, we have looked at water safety as part of safety week, so we know to how stay safe around our school pond. Whilst our pond is not very deep and we could stand up in it, it has plants that could tangle around our feet and unbalance us. So, we know to position ourselves a safe distance from the edge so we can see but not too close we could topple in.
As we are approaching the summer term break and many of us will be going away for a holiday with our families, we discussed how to stay safe around pools, rivers and beaches too.

Throughout the week, we have also been lucky enough to be visited by GIST who taught us all about road safety, and the Blue Cross who taught us all about how to be safe around dogs. We have also learnt about sun safety and being sun smart in the warmer weather.

We have used these experiences for our writing stimulus and have written key safety facts to help others understand how to be safe.

Continuing our RE concept of the Holy Spirit, we recapped on how it appeared to the disciples and how the Christian church was born. We made party hats with flames of fire and wind and had birthday cake to celebrate Pentecost. We also explored the Trinity using a triangle by placing God in the center and then God as father, God as son: Jesus and God as Holy Spirit at each point to understanding the Christian concept of God.

We have created some art work to represent this concept and it has been lovely to see this continue in our independent leaning time.

In PE we developed our skills in running confidently in a range of ways, changing direction and speed. We have also enjoyed spending some of our afternoon time on the adventure trail and Fort Lewis developing our climbing and balance skills.

Our musical focus this week was to explore the names and sounds of percussion instruments. we attached experiences we know to the sounds. for example 'sweeping the drum' sounded like 'spreading chocolate spread on toast!' Of course!

Enjoy the your well earned break with your families
See you all next term.
