My lighthouse,
My lighthouse,
Shining in the darkness,
I will follow you...

What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of our first term together Reception, by inviting your parents to join us for our welcome celebration service at church. With our message from Matthew 5:14-16 we were reminded that each and every one of us is a shining light for the world and your lights certainly shone in this service with your fantastic singing and impeccable manners. It was great to see so many parents and extended family there to support us too,
a heartfelt thank you to you all.

As a way of thanking our buddies for leading our worship and their wonderful friendship and kindness this term we presented them with a card and a huge tub of celebration chocolates to say how much we appreciate all their efforts that go into being leading lights in our school community. Well done year 6.

In our learning this week we have looked at homes around the world and how they are often built to cope with the weather conditions. We observed features of homes in countries where there are floods and the clever ways they make their houses taller to keep all their belongings dry. There was great interest in houses that were built underground to cope with high temperatures which led to some of you attempting to design houses for countries around the world with great explanations of why you had given them certain features. I can definitely see some future architects amongst you.

This week in PE with Mrs Swan we threw objects at targets! We tried to use control and made sure we were looking in the direction that we wanted our object to go in. We especially enjoyed our game where we played in teams, safely negotiating space around us.

In Music we began to look at the Rock 'n' Roll genre of music. How cool did we look shaking our teddy bear paws in the 'Teddy Bear Rock n Roll' song?

In our number work we continued to work independently making patterns. We are so good at spotting patterns everywhere in the environment now, I don't think there is a pattern in school that has not been identified!

PC Nick came to chat with us about staying safe during Halloween and bonfire night. He reminded us to chat to our families about only going to houses of people we know, wearing bright clothing so we can be seen, always respecting peoples property and saying thank you for any sweets and treats we receive. If we are going to have sparklers with our families, always wear gloves and put the sparkler into a bucket of water when they are finished so no one can accidentally touch the hot ends. Wise words which we all promised to follow. Thank you PC Nick.

Well, it has been a long and busy term but we have packed it so full of learning that it has flown by. Exploring the topic of houses and homes has been great fun because of your enthusiasm and desire to learn Reception. I hope you are looking forward to our new topic after the break, I wonder what it will be?

Have a wonderful rest next week and if you are going away, enjoy the beautiful sunshine.
kindest regards
Mrs Taylor
