Reception weekly news
Our week in reception.....
In mathematics, we used the counting principles we have developed over the past two weeks to count up to 5, represent numbers up to 5 in concrete and pictorial ways and subitising numbers by looking at them rather than counting. This helped up to recognise order irrelevance to 5. We had great fun demonstrating this to each other on the carpet in our huge 5 frame!
In literacy we have celebrated national poetry week by reading poems and rhymes throughout the week and performing them to each other in class, using our voices effectively for our audience. Well done on practicing them at home first, this really helps towards memory development.
In our topic work we have explored homes from the past, how they used to look from the outside and some of the objects and artifacts they would have had inside the home. This helped us to compare with homes today in our discussion time. Using some artifacts from the past we made observational drawings for our study book.
In PE with Mrs Swan we have learnt to throw balls underarm and overarm to each other, controlling the ball as we throw. In music we have been clapping out rhythms to new songs. see if you can do this at home with your favourite songs?
In our independent learning time we have been very creative in the home corner, making cakes and biscuits with play dough and setting up birthday parties, inspired by our maths activities, counting out plates, cups and making invitations.
Have a lovely weekend
