And just like that, another week is over...

Reception class, I cannot believe you have been in school for such a short space of time, and are doing so much!

This week has seen us begin our new phonics sessions each morning in our small groups. Our focus has been to learn set 1 sounds, some of us are at the beginning of this journey and some know some sounds and are building upon them. We are very excited by our new classroom addition 'Fred the Frog' who is helping us to segment and blend sounds in words. We are also learning how to form our letters correctly by using a little rhyme or memory aide. Most importantly we are enjoying our new learning because it is fun!

In preparation for our worship at church on Monday we have met up with our buddies to find out more about each other and to practice our song choices. We are very excited to share this with our parents on Monday, we hope you can make it.

Our Literacy and numeracy activities this week have focused on completing the Reception Baseline Assessment, demonstrating our understanding and skills using a variety of strategies to complete tasks.

In literacy we have been showing our understanding of vocabulary, applying our phonics knowledge to segment and blend simple words and sentences, picture sequencing and story prediction.

In Mathematics we have been counting, identifying and sequencing numerals, finding more, practical addition and subtraction, identifying shapes and pattern recognition.

Well done to you all, you carried out these tasks to the best of your ability, I'm so proud of you.

As part of independent learning time this week we have been consolidating our learning by making tall towers and counting how many blocks we used, counting out traffic cones up to 24 whilst making roads and safety barriers and making informational videos on the iPad to tell our friends how to make or do something. We are getting very creative with our technology, I would just ask though for some more flattering pictures of me when you add me to your video. I need lots of notice to do posh hair and make up!

On Wednesday, we were visited by Hi-Impact, and we took part in an exciting lesson called 'Now Press Play'. In the lesson, we all wore headphones and listened to the story of 'The three Little Pigs' where we got to act our being the different characters, even the big bad wolf! It was a brilliant fun session! Thank you to Mr Dale, our computing co-coordinator, for organising it for us.

I hope you all have a great weekend and see you on Monday
Mrs Taylor
