Reception weekly news

Home » News » Reception weekly news

Our classroom this week has been a hive of activity, we have been very busy artists, constructors, writers, musicians and mathematicians!

This week we have focused our learning on different types of buildings, identifying their features and names. Working collaboratively in groups we listened to each others ideas and suggestions and came up with which building we would like to construct as a team. Luckily our families had donated lots of different size cardboard boxes for us to choose from to help construct from. Thank you very much for these!

Once our buildings were finally constructed, we painted them and set about drawing and colouring doors and windows to decorate them. I think you'll agree they look fabulous!

In our literacy work we made a list of the resources we needed to make our buildings and then later in the week we used our list to think about the order we made our buildings and wrote a set of simple instructions for someone to follow.

In mathematics, we focused on number formation and orientation and then counted out numbers of different types of buildings with 1:1 matching and wrote the total number ensuring we formed our number with some accuracy.

Our greeting this week in welcome time has been 'ni hao' from China. See if you can teach it to your families this weekend reception.

We have also enjoyed some fantastic imaginative play in the garden during independent learning time, from building different types of homes from large wooden construction blocks to setting up a kitchen and serving food to our friends. We are all becoming considerate and kind friends, which is lovely to see.

Whilst spending time in the garden we have also been picking apples and raspberries from our fruit and vegetable plots and eating them at snack time. They were delicious! We are a very lucky reception class growing our own healthy snacks.

In our music session we used different songs and movements to find 'the pulse' which stays constant all the way through. We also practiced our 'It's my name song.'

Finally we finished our week by some mindfulness meditation, thinking about things that make us happy. Most of us thought about enjoy time with our families, like going for a long walk.

And on that lovely thought, enjoy your weekend with your families.
