Reception weekly news
Reception, we have completed our first week together and my goodness, what a fantastic week it has been.
Miss Taylor and myself have really enjoyed getting to know you all and are very impressed with how you have all settled into our rhythms and routines really well. A very big well done to you all!
To begin our learning about 'Construction and buildings' we read our chosen story book 'Home' by Alex T.Smith and afterwards discussed the different features of our own homes. We identified the different shapes we may need to help us to draw our homes and when we completed them we carefully painted them with bright colours. If only real houses were this colourful!
In Literacy we have compared our families to the friends who live together in the story and understand that all families are wonderfully unique. After drawing our family members we wrote their names in number order like the story: 1 2 3 4...
We also attempted independent sentence writing where we used our picture of our home to say what colour door it had. I was very impressed with how you tried to sit your letters on the line and put a little space between each word.
To help us consider our Christian values of kindness and gentleness, we read the story of 'Our House' by Micheal Rosen and discussed some of the main characters behaviour. We decided we were going to be kind to our friends in class, share toys and be gentle in our play. Lovely choices Reception.
In number work we have been singing number songs and rhymes to help us order numbers to 10 and beyond. We also discovered that we can subitise numbers just by looking at a number of objects and say the number without counting 1:1. Using building blocks hidden under a cloth we could shout out the number represented, when they were revealed, super quick. This will help us when we are beginning to use objects in practical mathematical activities as we won't have to count them out each time.
Mrs Swan came to visit us this week to get to know everyone and talk about some of the activities we can do in PE next week. We can't wait! She taught us a song to learn each others name and showed us how to find the pulse in a song, so we can start to appraise music.
In our morning greeting time we have started to introduce greetings from different countries and cultures. Our greeting this week is 'bonjour'. I wonder what it will be next week?
Our year 6 buddies have helped us enormously at lunch time, helping us get our lunch and play outside on the big playground with all the other children. A huge thank you year 6, we think you are amazing!
It certainly has been a very busy week with lots of fantastic learning going on Reception class, I'm so proud of you all.
Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you excited and ready to learn on Monday.
