Reception, what an adventure we have been on this week as we have explored the theme of 'Around the World'.

After listening to the story Handa's Surprise we named and drew the different fruits that we recalled and labelled them using describing words. We discussed who had tasted some of the fruits from the story and what we thought of them, then we explained our favourite fruit and why.

Then we thought about some of the questions we would like to ask Handa and wrote our best one down, making sure we used a question mark as our punctuation at the end of the question. when our questions were ready we took turns to role play Handa and ask and answer questions. I loved the answer that the goat was a helpful goat because he saw the basket was empty and butted the tree to fill the basket with tangerines!

As we continued with our theme around the world, we considered the items we would take with us to a hot country, like the one in our story 'Handa's Surprise'. We drew them carefully in our suitcases and then labelled them too. I'm please to see you all packed lots of pants!!

After looking at different destinations around the world, we pretended we were going on holiday and made a postcard to send back to our families at home. Get them to make a postcard to send to someone at home. I think we are all longing for the seaside!

In our mathematical learning this week we have used simple everyday language to compare volume and capacity using the terms full, empty, nearly empty (empty in the context of liquids (water) and solids (sand). using different resources we explored that volume can be measured in cups and we could recognise when a container was full. Our great discovery was that even though some containers are different shapes and size in appearance, they can both hold the same amount of water.

Our yoga session this week required us all to have good balance. We managed to balance on one foot with the other leg carefully held behind us for a short period of time and then alternate our standing foot. We held different poses whilst kneeling and sitting and transitioned between them whilst maintaining our balance. I think this has been the most challenging as well as our favourite so far, as it followed the story of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone.

Have a lovely weekend
