It's been a super few weeks of PE with some outstanding performances by many children.
We have completed our half term focuses and even managed to squeeze a few extra sessions for some classes.
Years 5 & 6 have finished hockey. Over the last few weeks they have created their own skills practise drills in groups, including sending and receiving, accuracy and dribbling. They have played battleships, a game of speed and 1v1 attacking and defending and finished by playing 10 v 10 games.
Years 3 & 4 have completed their netball unit. They also created their own drills including passing and receiving, using all the passes, footwork and shooting skills. They finished off by playing Hi 5, netball played using 5 players, C, GA, GD, GS and GK.
Years 1 & 2 have also completed their invasion skills unit. They have been introduced to the basic skills of many invasion games. They have learned throwing and catching netballs and tennis balls, bouncing basketballs, sideways throwing of rugby balls and dribbling using hockey sticks. They finished off by having free choice, choosing their favourite skills. Basketball bouncing and hoop shooting proved to be the most popular!
In our extra sessions we concentrated on problem solving as teams. The teams were tasked with crossing a shark infested custard pit using only a few items, untangling themselves from the human knot, getting the whole team through a hoop without breaking the chain and solving the riddle of 'The farmer and the river.' A great effort was made by all the children with a few groups managing to complete the puzzles! Well done.
Next half term we will move onto different sports! I wonder what they could be?
Have a lovely, relaxing half term!
