Our Week - Preschool

Home » News » Our Week - Preschool

This week we welcomed Rachel Nutting to our team and she will be working in preschool on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. She has been getting to know the children this week and lots of them already know her name!

The children were very excited at the beginning of the week and told us all their snow news, some children built snowmen at home they told us excitedly. Annabel shared her beautiful pictures from her adventures in the Lake District and we were amazed at how much snow had fallen there — thank you for sharing with us all at preschool Annabel. This led our learning this week and got us thinking about winter and what to wear to keep us warm.

The children created their very own snowmen pictures, using cotton reels to print and sprinkled glitter onto them.

We threaded mittens using needle and thread, we had to be careful with the needle as Imogen observed "they were a little sharp" Threading is a fantastic activity to build and strengthen children's fine motor skills.

During large group time we enjoyed dressing for winter, we had to think carefully about what clothes would keep us warm. "hats, scarfs, gloves, mittens" all the children were able to say. Verity showed us that she was wearing "vest, top and another top" to keep her warm.

Some of the older children have been writing all of the items that keep them warm, they thought carefully about the sounds they could hear and wrote to make their list — what clever clogs!

During free play I have noticed that the boys in particular are enjoying writing in Goldilocks' house, they have made cards, written letters and been looking at writing there letter sounds, wow boys!

In phonics we have been learning our new sounds "ck, e, u, h" Your new phonics pack will be in your trays this week, I can really see the impact of what you are doing at home to support your children in their learning at home, thank you and keep up the good work! Children who now have books to read at home will have there books changed once weekly by preschool staff.

Sticking to our goldilocks theme children this week have been building towers big, medium and small, this then got us thinking about big and small numbers. We built towers to represent number then we could visually see big and small numbers.

We will have a big focus on numeracy activities next week so please don't forget your teddy bears.

Thank you for another wonderful week,

See you tomorrow
Tara
