Our week in Year 2

Home » News » Our week in Year 2

This week in English, we have been learning all about 'expanded noun phrases'. We have all used our tape measures to stretch and expand our sentences to make them more interesting for the reader. We have used one or two adjectives in front of a noun to add more detail to the sentence. We then applied this knowledge and tried to describe some very funny looking pigs. Everyone came up with fantastic ideas and lots of expanded noun phrases. We also used a word bank to help us with our ideas. "What is a word bank?" I asked the children. "It is a bank but instead of giving you money, it gives you words for your writing!" they told me. A great idea! We will be using lots of word banks in year 2 to help us with our ideas.

We have also made our own human sentences where we had to order the words, check the sentence for sense and work as a team to work out what the sentence said. Great team work year 2!

In maths, we have continued to count in twos, threes and fives and this week, we have tried to work out how many twos/threes and fives there are in particular numbers. We have also been looking out for patterns.

We are well on our way to our Dick King Smith challenge. Lots of children have taken Dick King Smith books home to share with a parent or read themselves. We have taken the children's pictures and put them up in our reading area. What is your favourite Dick King Smith book so far? Keep up the great reading Year 2!
