Our week in Year 1.

Home » News » Our week in Year 1.

What a brilliant week we have had in Year 1! It has been action packed and full of learning, with everybody working very hard!

In English this week we looked at the story that Seb kindly bought in, it was called 'Katie in London'. We read, listened and even watched our story unfold. We wrote a recount of the story, described the Queen's crown and even acted and performed a bit of drama as the Lion, Katie and Jack, it was very funny! We introduced the 'Quiet King' and 'Quiet Queen' and the best learners got to wear our class crown or tiara! We loved it!

In Maths our learning was all about adding. We used cubes, numicon, counters, fingers and even ourselves to help us with our adding this week! We created human number sentences and did lots of super work in our Maths books.

Our cloakroom is now looking immaculate thanks to Isabelle and William H, we just have to win tidiest cloakroom now!

In Art this week we finished looking at our artist, Andy Warhol (we know lots about him now). It was lovely to see children explaining and discussing Warhol's artistic style and artwork. We made pop art portraits of ourselves and they look brilliant! We also created our own pop art in the style of Andy Warhol's famous queen portrait and they will be up on our wall soon! We wanted to know a bit more about our Queen and had lots of questions, we even had a go at the national anthem (we need a bit more practice to perfect it, but the video I took will make a great addition to the children's Year 6 leaving assembly!)

All in all another great week in Year 1, we look forward to starting our History topic next week which is all about the Great Fire of London, if you have anything relating to this that you could bring into school to enhance our learning that would be great!
