So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...
Our first week in Reception
Reception, we have completed our first week together and my goodness, what a fantastic week it has been. Miss Taylor and myself have really enjoyed getting to know you all and you have all settled really well. A very big well done to you all.
In our learning, we have spent time exploring our story 'Home' and finished drawing our homes and discussed the different features of houses. Being creative, we have begun our Big Art project, focusing on the works of the artist Paul Horton who likes to paint pictures of very colourful houses. Being fortunate enough to have met Paul last year he explained to me that he likes to paint homes because that it where we feel loved the most, surrounded by our families. This led to a big discussion in class about how our homes make us feel.
To begin our art work we first recycled some old canvases with wallpaper backing paper and a coat of white paint. When this was firm and dry we began to draw our homes and decided on the bright colours we would like to use. Our first layer of colour was made with soft pastel crayon and then when we were happy with our choices we began to add a second layer of paint over the top to add more definition and richness of colour. They are beginning to look fantastic and when they are dry we will add a layer of ink to create depth.
In Literacy we have enjoyed a range of stories and discussed elements of the stories to develop our understanding. We have also started to practise forming our letters neatly in our handwriting book and writing our names.
In number work we have been singing number songs and rhymes to help us order numbers to 10 and then 20. Extending this into then ordering numbers that were out of sequence and then forming our numbers correctly.
There was great excitement today when we used the iPads to play 'I spy' phonics, guessing the different objects that began with a certain letter sound as well as practising our phase 2 letter sounds.
Mrs Swan came to visit us too this afternoon to get to know everyone and talk about some of the activities we can do in PE next week. We can't wait!
It certainly has been a very busy week with lots of fantastic learning going on.
Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you excited and ready to learn on Monday.
Kind regards
Mrs Taylor
