Our First Week Back in Reception
Welcome back to the summer term. We have had a fabulous week in the sun! Our garden has begun to show signs of new life. Alfie made a great observation to notice birds nesting in our bird box. Our butterflies are hatching too. We have really enjoyed observing the butterflies in our quiet area.
In Literacy we have enjoyed reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar to give us lots of opportunities to write. We have written about all the foods that the caterpillar eats, postcards to our friends and information about the life cycle of a butterfly.
In Numeracy we have developed our knowledge of shapes to describe flat and solid shapes in a range of practical activities. We created a huge building site in the hall to build and compare all the solid shapes that we know. We have also thought about what a pattern is. We decided that a pattern could be with colours, shapes and these patterns can repeat. We enjoyed thinking about making a pattern when the rainbow fish lost all of its scales, and we created our own beautiful scales.
Our PE lesson this week also linked to the rainbow fish as we moved through the ocean and took safety when the storm came. This term we are moving onto developing our gymnastic skills using different apparatus.
Miss Addis and Miss Wood have enjoyed getting to know everyone and exploring our classroom and garden. They would like to thank the children for being very welcoming and friendly.
Today, you will have received your class newsletter with details of our learning this term. If you would like to come in as a mystery reader we are always keen to accommodate to a day to suit you. Our regular slot is a Wednesday afternoon at 2.45/2.50pm.
