Our week in Year 1

Home » News » Year 1 - Our week

Our first full week together as a class has flown by! We have now all settled into Year 1 and we are all ready for the challenges ahead!

In maths we have looked at counting up to 20 in different ways. We've looked at counting in twos and fives and we used lots of resources to help us. Our tables have been full of numicon, bead strings and multi-link cubes and we were even able to tidy them away quietly and sensibly, so a very well done! We played guess the number, human number lines and also our new blast off game, we are having lots of fun!

In English we have been looking at the perfect way to write a sentence. We have looked at the high-5 sentence and the 5 things we think makes a brilliant sentence in Year 1. I would urge parents to ask children what the 5 finger check for a sentence is (as we are getting very good at doing it now you see). We helped the Naughty Bus and Mr. Dale with their sentences (they had forgotten some very important things like capital letters and even full stops!). However, Year 1 were at hand to save the day and I was very impressed at hearing the children's explanations of how to write a high 5 sentence!

In Art this week, we have begun to look at our artist, Andy Warhol, and some of his different artwork pieces. We were shocked to find out that one of his paintings sold for more than £100 million! We explored the use of different colors, learning about cold and warm colors. We completed self-portraits and used color to show our emotions, it was very interesting!

Our first full week together has been very fun and fast, I am so pleased to know that I have such a caring and friendly class and look forward to the busy weeks ahead!
