Osprey alert, reports and French in Year 6

Home » News » Osprey alert, reports and French in Year 6

To start our week in Year 6, we used our own research, books, websites and leaflets to word bank all the vocabulary we would need to write a report about ospreys (which links to our new novel Sky Hawk). We had some fascinating facts to include in our writing. We made detailed plans and then wrote independently to produce our reports. Great job everyone!

Much excitement ensued when we noticed that the osprey eggs on the nest we are watching — via live webcam-had hatched, and 3 healthy chicks could be seen! Don't forget to keep an eye on their progress here.

We enjoyed half an hour of free choice on Monday afternoon -it is the first week post-SATs after all — and chose to read, catch up on some coding, or simply enjoy completing art work with friends.

Today, we also joined in very enthusiastically with an afternoon of French, learning to answer the question 'Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans ta ville?'. Miss Lake says our French accents are fantastic! Once we'd learned the vocab we needed, we drew maps of a town and made a key in French. Then we answered the question and translated answers very accurately indeed. We'll brush up on lots more French over the coming weeks. We can even sing in French — with much gusto!

Our novel, Sky Hawk, has us gripped. Will Iris (the osprey) survive? Will the people of the Gambian village help her? Will she make it back to Scotland? We are all willing her on!

Enjoy the rest of your week, Year 6 (and don't forget to prepare for your sponsored silence on Monday!).
