Numbers, numbers, numbers!

Home » News » Numbers, numbers, numbers!

In Year 1, we have had a busy week of learning.

In Literacy we have had great fun learning about chimpanzees and the world's top expert on chimpanzees — Jane Goodall. Watching videos, and reading a story about her childhood has really helped us to get to know how excited she was about wild animals at such an early age. We have been listening to key facts and writing our own sentences. In our ICT we continued to learn more about links to search for a video of a chimpanzee being released into the wild. I can't wait to see how our fact files develop next week.

This week in Numeracy we have continued to look at subtraction. We took the parachute outside to investigate more than and less than and what these symbols mean. We met Mr Croc and wrote our own number sentences.

Our learning in Geography has been very active as we have learnt a continents song and found out more about where the equator is by imagining our body is more like a globe. Reaching up high to our frozen North Pole and stretching to our toes to reach our frozen South Pole has helped us to think about the different temperatures around the world. We have also begun to create a textured map for one of our study work pages.

On Wednesday Year 1 did a tremendous job taking part in our sponsored silence. We were all very proud of you and we hope you enjoyed sharing your certificates at home. Thank you for all your generous donations.

Today we have learnt about the important messages within our NSPCC number day and taken the time to think about using our confident voices to say no and seek help from an adult we trust. To celebrate we also took part in a number hunt in PE, created numbers with our bodies, and we counted the beats in music when we played percussion instruments.

We hope you are all having a great weekend.

See you on Monday,
Mrs Pointon and Miss O'Shea.
