Monday and Tuesday in Year 6

Year 6 have had a busy but productive start to the week...

We began with some modelled writing about the storm approaching the island of Wing, discussing the hidden meanings within words along the way, and making sure word choices were accurate. Then we spent time gathering lots of powerful nouns, verbs and adjectives which would be useful in our independent writing. We produced our draft descriptions, trying hard to just 'get our ideas on paper'.

Our next job was to re-read and edit our writing using a checklist which helped us to make improvements. We had to read, edit, improve and re-read so many times! Anya said "Miss Lake, I'll know this writing off by heart!" It was worth it though. The descriptions are so powerful!

In science we designed our own animals, making sure they were perfectly adapted to a chosen habitat, and we considered what might prompt adaptation and evolution. Next week, we will learn more about Charles Darwin and look more closely at his study of finches on the Galapagos islands. We'll have to measure and record data...just like he did!

In French this afternoon, we learned how to say the months of the year and combined this with what the weather might be like at that time of year. I'm always so impressed by how much the children remember...and how great their pronunciation is! Fantastique!

Spag.com homework and spelling homework has been set today and is due by next Tuesday (20th September).

Enjoy the rest of the week Year 6.
