Mad about Minibeasts

Home » News » Reception News

Our Minibeast adventures have begun! Today we have read the story 'Mad about Minibeasts.' and it is a good way to summarise our first week back in Reception. We have been enthusiastic minibeast hunters in school, and from what we hear at home too! This week we have observed lots of different minibeasts and we have thought about how they behave. Our bug hotel has now been created with lots of items from around the garden. Over the weekend we will be collecting more natural items to make tubes for small habitats and hiding places for our smallest creatures.

In Literacy we have linked our minibeast work to Life Cycles writing about the life cycle within the Very Hungry Caterpillar story. Our caterpillars are growly nicely and they are getting ready for the next stage of their life cycle. We have been writing as independently as possible and working on checking our sentences make sense.

Our Numeracy focus has been linked to our next steps for learning, incorporating minibeast activities to find missing numbers, matching, ordering and counting.

We have also thought about the Hungry caterpillar's healthy food choices to talk about how to stay healthy and in PE we have been very active to move our bodies to replicate the movements of different minibeasts.

All in all a busy week, and we have had lots to talk about. Have fun on your Minibeast adventures this weekend.
