Mad about Minibeasts

Home » News » Mad about Minibeasts

Our Minibeast adventures have begun! This week we have observed lots of different minibeasts and we have thought about how they behave. I was overwhelmed with the number of minibeasts that have been made over the Easter holidays. They have got us talking about all sorts of minibeasts. This week we have drawn our favourite minibeasts and thought about questions like, 'Are we like Minibeasts?' The responses were really interesting, 'No because we have coats and they don't,' and that led us to think about how minibeasts stay strong on the outside of their bodies.

Counting in steps, forwards and backwards and working out missing numbers has been a focus in Numeracy this week. We have worked really hard to count in 10s too.

In Literacy we have took the time to reflect on our steps in learning so far. We looked in our writing books to help decide what we would like to get better at. You made some great independent choices like 'check my letters are the right way round,' as well as next steps like 'making my finger spaces bigger' and 'more swoops and flicks.'

Moving like a Minibeast was great fun in PE. We moved our bodies to the sound of different musical instruments and then explored how to move on, over and along different pieces of apparatus.

Today has been a wonderful day in Reception with all our activities linked to St George's Day. We found out why St George was so brave and why we remember the story as part of our special celebrations. We had great fun showing our costumes to each other and talking about the characters in the story.

A great first week Reception. See you on Monday.
