Interfaith week

Dear parents and carers
This year for interfaith week we have looked at diversity and difference in British society. As a whole school we looked at different faiths celebrations of festival of lights. The children identified key beliefs of different religions. We looked at what we share in common, the belief in the same God, and differences, in how faith is practiced. We have had visitors from other faiths to enrich our learning and understanding of how they express their faith.
On Wednesday Ann Angel showed the children a traditional shabbat meal, religious artefacts and talked about aspects of her Jewish faith. Ann has since emailed the school to say how wondeful the children were and how knowledgably they contributed to the sessions. The children commented that it was exciting to ask questions to a real person from a different faith rather than books and research.
On Thursday Jay Vaja shared his Hindu faith in worship and then held class workshops for the children to find out how he practices his faith. The children said that they had learnt many interesting facts about Hinduism and were keen to ask questions. The fact they most like finding out was that Hindu's worship the same God as Jews, Christians and Muslims and celebrate all the different faiths festivals as we all celebrate the same God.
We are looking forward to our upcoming visit to a Mosque to extend our knowledge of the Islamic community and enhance our current year 5 and 6 RE units of work.
The children are looking forward to sharing their class work for interfaith week with the rest of the school community.
kind regards
Mrs Taylor
