iMovies and imaginative story writing in Year 3

In Year 3 this week:

We've been busy writing settings for our chapter from The Indian in the Cupboard. We used powerful noun phrases, verbs and adverbs to create a beach setting for Little Bull's adventure, and we planned our story on a story planning sandcastle! Today, we started writing the adventure and will continue with this towards the end of next week.

We've also completed dictionary tasks and impressed Miss Lake with how quickly we can find words and meanings in a range of dictionaries. This skill really helps when we edit our writing and everyone can use the skill effectively.

In maths, we've recapped work on 2d and 3d shapes — drawing them, describing them and making them from nets. We know lots of the properties we can use when discussing shape. Some children worked with Mrs Van Russelt, unpicking word problems and using arrays to help find answers.

Our afternoons have seen us busy with iMovies. We used the App 'I can animate' to make short moving films, and then added sounds in iMovie. We've saved our work and hope they can be put onto discs to include in study work books. They are super animations and we've had great fun making them.

Today, we took time in PSHE worship to think about traditions linked to Queen Elizabeth's birthday. Why does she have two birthdays? Can you remember? This afternoon, we also tuned in briefly to a live broadcast from Windsor Castle. We found out more facts about our Queen and agreed she is a very inspiring lady.

We also enjoyed our extra PE slot and took part in Badminton lessons. Great fun...and warm work!

On Monday next week, we hope to run sports day practice so please could you ensure that children bring PE kit, a hat, sun cream and a water bottle. We are also going to begin our Design and Technology project to build Native American homes next week. Children will be able to wear their 'messy shirts' but it may also be wise to wear older uniform as there will be gluing and sawing and Modroc and paint in class! This work will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Today, we said goodbye to Tom and wish him lots of luck at his new school. We'll miss you Thomas!

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Enjoy the Fig Pie wakes if you're attending. I think a sun dance or two may be useful!
