Wow what a busy but fantastic final week we have had before our Easter holidays. I am so proud of...
Happy New Year from Reception
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to our new term. The story of the Gingerbread Man has driven most of our learning this week. We started off planning our own ideas thinking about what learning we would like to do. In our classroom we have been vey busy creating giant gingerbread men.
To begin our Literacy work, we went on a Ginger bread man hunt around the school. To find him, we needed to read clues and work as a team to work out where he had been. An activity thinking about how to trap the gingerbread man enabled us to develop our imaginative ideas and our sentence work. I hope you enjoyed eating your gingerbread biscuits today. Did any of you decorate them?
In circle time we talked about our when the Gingerbread man was happy and sad in the story and this then helped us to think about when we feel happy and sad.
Our focus in Numeracy this week has been all around the topic of measures. We have compared how heavy objects are, and looked at which containers hold the most or the least. 'Run, run as fast as you can' gave us the idea to have a capacity race in three teams. This was great fun.
In PE we talked about what moving to music is and we decided it was dancing. We bounced balls and thought about how we could move our bodies to a piece of bouncy music.
In the garden this week we have been building boats to try and transport the Gingerbread man across the river. We read a book all about boats and decided which one would be best for the Gingerbread man. The most popular choice was a house boat and we had some great designs.
See you on Monday for another exciting week.
