Happy Half Term Year 4!

I can't believe it's been a full half term of home learning. I want to say a massive thank you parents for making this possible. You are all doing the most amazing job.

Again this week, you have all made me really proud to be your teacher. You constantly work hard to produce fantastic work and I'm am overwhelmed with your hard work and dedication.

In our English lessons this week, you wrote letters to Mrs Chesters trying to persuade her to put your favourite dishes on the lunch menu. I love some of the ideas you had! We started by looking at the features of a persuasive letter, looked at examples of good and bad letters, looked at techniques which we need to use to make an effective letter and then wrote our letters. You all used fantastic vocabulary, persuasive points and emotive language. I don't know how mrs Chesters will resist these fantastic menu ideas. Just to ensure your dishes were made as you wanted, on Friday, you wrote recipes providing clear and concise information. I loved how some of you made your dishes and shared photos and videos with me!

For spag this week, we look at the suffix -ation. We learnt what happens when this is added to end of the word and what these new words mean.

In Maths this week, we have been exploring grid references. We started off by looking at describing the position of points on a map. Then moved on to learn about grid coordinates. We recapped the relevance of the y and x axis and used the phrase ' along the corridor and up the stairs to help us remember how we read coordinates'. You are now able to find these points on a map, name what is at these points and plot your own coordinates.

Our afternoon activities this week were based on Food. Many of you have made your own meals and different items of food this week and this is fantastic to see. You have also learnt about the different food groups, made food planners, posters and explored what different food is eaten around the world. I absolutely love seeing what you are all getting up to at home and I am so proud of the work you continue to share with me.

Thank you for the lovely messages, videos, posters and pictures I was sent on Wednesday for 'Thank a teacher day'. I was overwhelmed with your love and kindness and this made me miss you all even more. I cannot wait until we can safely reunited together. On that note, I just want to say how excited I am to be teaching you all again in September. I am missing all your smiling faces so much and can not wait until we can see one another again.

Finally, I want to say, have a lovely half term break. Take some time to relax, spend time with your families and do lots of things that you enjoy. Can't wait to speak (virtually) to you again after our half term break.

Miss Welch
