Happy Chinese New Year!
The last two days we have celebrated and found out all about Chinese New Year. We read a story called 'The Great Race' to found out why the animals were chosen for the Chinese zodiac, we acted out this story and had our very own race. We learnt that this year is the year of the dog. We found out that red was a sign of good luck, thank you for coming dressed in red! This afternoon we learnt that people spring clean their homes to say goodbye to all the bad and welcome in the good so we decided that we must have a big clean and sort out of our preschool garden and indoor to welcome the good.
We have created lanterns, dragons, dogs and even had a go at marking Chinese symbols. The children went home with red envelopes which has a penny inside to bring luck and today bought home their very own chopsticks! Have a look on tapestry to see a video of our dragon dance from today.
At snack time we have tasted Chinese food including, prawn crackers, sweet and sour sauce, rice, noodles and spring rolls — yummy!
What a wonderful week of celebrations we have had. Have a wonderful break preschool,
Tara
