Full swing in Year 5

Home » News » Full swing in Year 5

We are in full swing in Year 5 already.

We have continued to experiment with the wet on wet watercolour technique to test our ideas for our leaf artwork. We will continue to focus on the artist Georgia O'Keeffe next week.

We continued with measurement in Maths this week. We have focused on conversions, including imperial measurements.

In English we have begun a new descriptive write. We have used images, listened to music to create our own word banks, and then used synonyms to find alternative words. We have begun our descriptive write using these tools and thinking about different ways to begin our sentences.

During Book Club this week, we have read information on rainforests and used it to answer comprehension questions fully. We now know how important the rainforests are to the human race.

Our new Science unit began this week, Earth, Sun and Moon. We completed a concept map to record our previous knowledge and then composed questions to investigate. We were amazed by the size of the Earth, Sun and Moon and we even converted the measurements from Km to m, there were some very big numbers! Debating the theories of Copernicus and Galileo will be our next focus.

We also began our new Geography unit on South America this week, focusing on countries and their capital cities. Countries surrounding the Amazon Rainforest will be our next focus.

Our new unit in RE is the Islam Faith. We focused today on belonging to the Islam Faith community, creating questions to investigate and watching video clips on their calling to prayer. We will continue with this next week.

We continued with our ei and ie spelling focus, the rhyme has really helped us in Y5.

Many thanks for sparing the time to come and share your child's spring study work books today. We have worked extremely hard on them and we are very proud of the content and presentation. It is always lovely to see the children shine and show off their work. Thank you for your support and your lovely comments.

Have a great bank holiday weekend, Mrs B.
