A doctor visits preschool

Thank you to Dr Sam (Emilie's mummy) who came in to talk to us about her role as a doctor. We answered questions about what we thought a doctor did and why we would go to see a doctor? "If you hurt your leg" said Max "If you bang your head" said Edward. The children then talked about times they had been to the doctor. We then listened beautifully to a story and found about prescriptions and where we would go to get our medicine; from a shop called a pharmacy.

We all got to use a stethoscope and listen to each others heart beats — how exciting! Next, we drew around patient Emilie and were all given cards with different body parts on. We then had to place our card on the body correctly. We had to think very carefully about where the lungs and heart went!

Lastly, we talked about the importance of hand washing and how quickly germs can spread. We learnt that we can not see germs and so to see how quickly they spread Dr.Sam used glitter as a visual on her hands and shook our hands to show how germs spread. We will take extra care with our hand washing in future!

Thank you for coming to talk to us Sam, love from us all at preschool.
