Diwali - Preschool

Home » News » Diwali - Preschool

Today began our week of exploring the Hindu festival Diwali. We found out that Diwali is the festival of light. Where Diwali is celebrated you will see rows of candles and lights. Today the children used salt dough to create their very own Diva lamps and created a paper plate candle too.

We created Rangoli patterns, we learnt that children and women use coloured sand, rice or flour to create their beautiful patterns. We had a go using rice, chalk and pastels.

This afternoon we found out a little bit about what children like to do in India. We were excited to learn that they like to fly kites. We created our own kites and had the perfect weather to fly them!

We tasted some Indian food; we had fresh mango this morning at snack time and this afternoon we sampled poppadum's and mango chutney!

To end our day we baked a traditional Indian sweet treat, chocolate coconut balls. The best part of this process was using the rolling pin to smash the biscuits into small pieces!

I look forward to exploring more of this festival tomorrow,
