Discussion and description Y6

Y6 began their week with the tricky task of editing their comparisons. Whilst Miss Lake worked individually with some children, others worked independently to improve their writing. We were a very quiet and focused group.

In the afternoon on Monday, we completed a science activity to calculate our heart's recovery rate after exercise. First we found our resting heart rate, then, after getting very active, we immediately measured our heart rate again. We then recorded our heart rate after 2, 4 and 6 minutes. To find our 'recovery rate', we calculated differences. After carefully completing a table of results, we produced a graph and answered questions. Everyone knew that the best way to improve our resting heart rate and recovery rate was to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to exercise regularly. This helped us to achieve our science objective and to answer a key question: What impact does diet and lifestyle have on our heart?

Today, we 'talked for writing'. We brainstormed and discussed the power of words: verbs, adjectives and adverbs. This task was so that, later in the week, we are ready to write descriptions of Netherworld. We thought about how appealing to the senses of the reader could engage them with our writing. We wrote similes and metaphors too.

After completing Spag and spellings, we also learned more about modal verbs. We took part in a 'Kung Fu Punctuation' task. It was lots of fun and it was great to be active whilst learning but it also gave us the chance to discuss why and how punctuation is used in sentences: lots of revision here!

There will be an additional writing slot this week on Friday morning. Don't forget to let your mind go to work on how you will describe Netherworld then.

I hope the rest of the week is fun, Y6, and that you enjoy your Interfaith week visit.

See you on Friday.
