Cooking in Year 1

Home » News » Cooking in Year 1

Today Year 1 have made a healthy curry to encourage Mr Grinling, the lighthouse keeper to be a bit healthier! Our design and technology skills we have been using are cutting and chopping, using a bridge cut. Children, can you show your parents what a bridge cut looks like? Can you remember what you chopped and what you cut? We talked about who helps to cook at home and Fin was keen to tell us he likes to help when making Spaghetti Bolognese and Grace likes peeling onions and helping to take the peas out of their pods with her dad.

We peeled and chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, cut up the coriander and green beans. We drained the chickpeas and cooked the rice. All of the children had a try which was fantastic and lots of children came back for seconds. Harriet, Dougie and Poppy enjoyed it so much, they wanted even more!

Click here if you would like to try this recipe at home. We used chickpeas instead of chicken in our recipe. Please send in any photos if you are making this at home!
