A class full of artists!

Home » News » Year 1 News

Our artistic powers have been in full swing this week. Our learning has been focused around the artist David Hockney and we explored two of his paintings linked to our topic. To get to know the paintings, we made jigsaws, drew our own versions and experimented with colour by painting a splash with blue and white paint. We are now busy creating our own version of the Wave painting for our study work books. Today we have joined up with Year 3 to compare our artwork and it was great to hear how they painted a very famous painting, the Great Wave by Hokusai.

In Literacy we have been role playing being news reporters and cameramen. A whale has been washed up on the sand and we worked together to think, say, like, write, and check our sentences to write our own news report. Our writing has been linked to writing who, what and where sentences, and Year 1 you all did a great job!

Two-digit number games have been a great way to find out more about our numbers on the 100 square. In maths, we have learnt all about how to draw two digit numbers, count in tens and ones, and work out which is the biggest and smallest number.

A little update on our puppets — we are all working hard to create beautiful, fun and friendly sea creature puppets and they are currently on display in the classroom. I can't wait to see them all come together for a class photo!

Have a super weekend,

Mrs Pointon
