Busy week in Y6

Home » News » Busy week in Y6

A super week in Y6, from measuring rivers, to climbing hills and boxing our own shadows too. Treats we have earned from being focused and determined in all our class tasks.

Our maths has continued with measurement. We have concentrated on perimeter and area of compound shapes and will move onto triangles and parallelograms next week. We have completed an end of term arithmetic paper too.

In english we have crafted our stories, and now we are going to polish them before adding them to our posh writing books. Our stories show correct speech punctuation. We have concentrated on ensuring our speech moves our stories on, and thought carefully about adding tags where needed.

In spag this week we have practised determiners, subordinating clauses and relative clauses. We will move onto new areas next week.

In geography we have investigated the journey of a river. We created a large mountain and river in our classroom and carefully named all its features. We have had a fantastic day using this knowledge at Carding Mill Valley where we all thoroughly enjoyed our adventure.

We have finally managed to connect to a live webcam at www.ospreys.org.uk/webcam/
This site shows two osprey, Maya and 33. They have recently migrated back to Leicestershire after spending their winter in Africa. The Rutland Osprey Project was one I followed last year, when Maya and 33 reared 3 chicks successfully. I am so excited to see them return to the same eyrie this year. We will follow their daily activities and keep our fingers crossed that more eggs are laid this year. You can access this site at home if you would like to.

Our Easter service practice began this week. If your child has come home with words, could I please ask you to support your child in learning them.

We welcomed a visitor from a different faith today, Imran Kotwol from a mosque in Bolton. He kept us all engaged during a wonderful worship, and then we were lucky enough to continue our learning in a class workshop.

PE this week took place outside where Y6 were challenged to problem solve as a team. We finished our hectic week off with boxing in the sunshine.

All homework has been checked and new set.

Well done Y6 you have worked extremely hard this week. Have a lovely weekend.
