Bobby Shafto - Preschool

Home » News » Bobby Shafto - Preschool

We are taking part in World Nursery Rhyme week this week at preschool. Each day we will learn a new rhyme.

Todays rhyme has been 'Bobby Shafto' — this rhyme was unfamiliar to most of us including me!

Bobby Shafto's gone to sea,
Silver buckles on his knee;
He'll come back and marry me,
Bonny Bobby Shafto!

We thought about how Bobby Shafto had gone to sea. "On a boat" said Annie. "It's a pirate ship" said Eddie. We created our own ships and floated them on the sea. "It's sinking" observed Claudia as her boat (yoghurt pot) began to fill with water. We experimented with other objects to see what else would float/sink.

We have been exploring the sounds of musical instruments too. We tapped, banged, shook, rattled lots of instruments to make sounds. We found out our bodies make music too, if we stamp, clap, whistle etc, we can hear a sound.

I wonder what tomorrows new rhyme will be?
