So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...
Big Art and Everything Roman in Year 2
In Year 2, we have been learning all about the Romans and based our 'Big Art' projects around the Romans too. We started to week by dressing up as Romans and learning about roman outfits. We then learnt about Roman numerals and money and then made our own coins, out of air drying clay. We then learnt about mosaics and then made our own Roman soldiers in a mosaic style. We have named them Claudius and Gladius! We also found out all about Roman soldiers and why they carried shields and then made our own mini versions, firstly designing then making and finally painting with acrylic paint and added detail using gutta. I'm sure you'll agree they have made some fantastic shields, which are already up on the wall in the classroom!
In English, we have been learning all about Roman soldiers and what they wore to go to battle. We learnt lots of new words to add to our 'Roman Word Wall' such as crest, armour, protect, javelin and tunic. We then put together the information we had learnt to make a fact file all about the uniform of a Roman soldier.
Children, I hope you have enjoyed this week as much as I have and I hope you have shared some of the facts we have learnt with your parents...even the disgusting ones!!
Have a lovely weekend.
