Ancient Greeks Arrive In Wybunbury
Wow! It has been a brilliant day! You all looked brilliant in your costumes, thank you so much for taking the time to dress up!
Our day was jam-packed with activities. First, we heard all about Athens and Sparta; we learnt about how they battled between each other for many years, but when the Persians came to invade they united in order to defeat them. We also learnt abut Alexander the Great and how he was a famous commander who spent 13 years winning battles and building an empire. After that, we completed a quiz which meant we learnt lots of new facts about the era. Did you know that the famous Greek philosopher Diogenes lived in a barrel?
After break, we put our logic skills to the test and completed an Ancient Greek puzzle. This took some thinking and problem solving, but we got there in the end. We then played Pettia which is the first ever recorded version of a board game which uses a board like a chessboard.
In the afternoon, we learnt about weapons and armour. It was interesting and exciting. We learnt that the Greeks were responsible for bringing metal armour to the world (they did it before the Romans did). Finally, we were transported to the theatre and took part in an a play about Theseus and the Minotaur (which was perfect because we've been learning about it in English).
Thanks for a fantastic day everyone. Check out the little video for a snapshot of what we've been up to. — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0QxeU2XlcI
