A Wonderful Week - Preschool News

Home » News » A Wonderful Week - Preschool News

This week we read a new story for many of us, 'Handa's Surpise'. This story introduced some new words to many of us, including guava, ostrich and avocado. We enjoyed learning about a different culture and discussed similarities and differences between ourselves and Handa . We all thought Handa was such a kind friend and we had a go at balancing a basket of fruit on our heads and delivering them to our friends — luckily we didn't pass any cheeky animals on our walk.

We also listened to the story 'We are Welcome' and talked about what makes us special and unique, we then created our own life size portrait of ourselves. Can you spot your child in the photo!

In phonics we have had fun playing phonics splat, our pronunciation of the sounds is improving each day — keep this up at home everyone. It has been lovely to observe the children in Preschool this week role play phonics lessons, you will make great teachers!

In our mathematics this week we have explored capacity, you have used used different sized spoons to fill cups with water counting how many small spoons it will take to fill the cup and how many large spoons? You have also experimented with a selection of bottles and containers in water showing the bottles and containers as full, half full, empty and overflowing.

It has been wonderful to watch how independent you are all in the Preschool room and how beautifully you all interact together, you have shared ideas to create jelly fish and cards, built bridges for the train track, played hide and seek and much more..... We are of course missing our friends at home and talk about you all, thank you for sharing what you get up to at home for us to see.

Thank you for a week filled of laughter and fun!
Tara x
